Adriana Lima Shows Off Her Pregnant Belly, Elle Fanning Blows Up And Jennifer Connelly Goes Metallic At Cannes

The Cannes Film Festival has kicked off, meaning a marathon of red-carpet events as celebrities gear up for movie premieres.

It’s only the second day of the festival, but we already feel there won’t be anything subtle about the outfits at this year’s event.

Here are some of the looks we’ve seen so far:

Not soft yellow at all

Lori Harvey looks a lot like Belle from that scene in Beauty in the Beast…you know the location. (AP: Daniel Cole) The sleeves add just a little extra to Viola Davis’ otherwise quite classic dress. (AP: Joel C Ryan) Jasmine Tookes’ dress has its fan. (AP: Petros Giannakouris)

glam metal

Jennifer Connelly’s dress looks made from crumpled foil from takeaway garlic bread, but in an elegant way. (AP: Joel C Ryan) That over-the-shoulder cape adds some drama to Grace Elizabeth’s golden number. (AP: Petros Giannakouris) Bebe Vio is spreading big knight-in-shiny-armor vibes with this cut-away track. (AP: Joel C Ryan)

Cannes

High volume

It’s almost like Didi Stone drapes a half-inflated air mattress around her shoulders, but somehow it’s regal and glamorous. (AP: Vianney Le Caer) Stack a loofah on a few miles of tulle, and you’ve got something close to Leonie Hanne’s dress. (AP: Petros Giannakouris) Elle Fanning was also on the tulle train… but it was more subtle than Hanne. (AP: Joel C Ryan) Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s dress looks like someone put a bunch of flowers in a garbage bag, bursting open because the black plastic couldn’t contain all that fun. It’s brilliant. (AP: Vianney Le Caer) Tallia Storm’s sleeves don’t fray — they’re reminiscent of those paper pineapple straw decorations you see on fruity cocktails. (AP: Daniel Cole)

Theatrical details

Something about Meryem Uzerli’s dress suggests that the designer was inspired by a set of wings from a children’s fairytale costume. (AP: Petros Giannakouris) Adriana Lima’s pregnant belly is a key feature of this dramatic look with extra long sleeves and shoulder pads. (AP: Joel C Ryan) Katherine Langford may not feel comfortable leaning against the back of her chair in this dress, but that’s the price for a look like this. (AP: Daniel Cole) The high neckline and dangling straps that wrap around Lashana Lynch’s arms give this number a touch of stateliness. (AP: Joel C Ryan)

And this understated entrance…

Frederique Bel’s dress may not be the most practical for rummaging through the shops, but it was appropriate for a dramatic red carpet. (AP: Dionisia Vasilopoulou) The Cookie Montser-esque mini dress is fine, but let’s face it, it’s all about that train. (AP: Petros Giannakouris) Yes, it’s all about the train.
